Frisco Today

Frisco is a family-oriented town that offers affordable and diverse lodging, shopping and dining options. Tucked against the soaring peaks of the Ten Mile Range, with Lake Dillon at its border, there is plenty to do outdoors. In the winter, Frisco is known for great Nordic skiing, backcountry ski trails and snowshoeing trails, and dinner sleigh rides.

In the summer, the Frisco Peninsula draws bicycle riders, Frisbee golfers, softball teams and hikers. The Frisco Bay Marina offers motorboat, sailboat, canoe and kayak rentals for a scenic ride around Lake Dillon. In addition, Frisco offers a skateboard park and several summer concerts providing entertainment for the entire family.

Before you set out for a day of hiking or boating, enjoy the views from one of Frisco's fine communities. The views from Frisco are in every direction. When jogging or skiing out by the openspace still undeveloped on the Frisco Penninsula - and gazing back at the town, the clouds appear as if they might be fog in a Norwegian small town. But this is Colorado!

FRISCO - As the newest member to Frisco's town council, Kim Cancelosi said she's ready to take the plunge. She's one of three candidates registered for three open council spots, so the Town of Frisco recently canceled its April election in favor of appointments.
Cancelosi has lived in Frisco full-time since 1995 (after she met her husband Jim at Music on Main), but she started visiting Frisco in 1979 when her parents moved there. She said she's always liked to be active in public service. So when other residents told her she should run for an open council spot, Cancelosi stepped back to measure whether she had the time.
"I don't think you can just show up on the two meeting days and think that's all it involves," she said, noting that she believes the council's time commitment to be within her capabilities.
Cancelosi, a mother of two boys - Keegan (10) and Lukas (8), is a former attorney who currently works in home fa

As of today, Frisco's election for council members will be canceled. A resolution to approve this was OK'd at Tuesday's town council meeting.
There are three candidates to fill three seats, so an election isn't necessary.
Though the Town of Dillon also has three candidates to fill three open council seats, its election is not being canceled as there are two mayor candidates - Don Parsons and Ron Holland.

SUMMIT COUNTY - As the ball gets rolling toward November's elections, precinct caucuses on Tuesday night will determine which local Democrats and Republicans are to represent their parties.
"They'll be picking representatives to the county assembly and precinct chairs," Summit County Clerk and Recorder Kathy Neel said. "And the county assembly is where county candidates gain access to the ballot."
The caucuses begin at 6 p.m.. The Republicans will meet at the Summit County Community Senior Center while the Democrats meet at Summit Middle School; both locations are in Frisco.
The caucuses are also to include straw polls for such offices as governor and U.S. senator.
To participate in a party caucus, one must have been registered to vote in the county for at least 30 days and affiliated with the political party for at least 60 days.
Debra Irvine, chair of Summit County Republicans and House District 56 candidate, said that at the Republican caucuses,

FRISCO - In light of a still struggling economy and many financial unknowns, Frisco town officials will likely delay its "Step up Main Street" redevelopment project.
The Town of Frisco is currently focused on redeveloping the area between Summit Boulevard and Madison Avenue on Main Street to create a cohesive, historic look for its main drag.
Town manager Michael Penny said at a Tuesday council work session that construction on Frisco's Main Street project should be pushed back to 2012, instead of 2011 as initially planned.
"We're going to have to get real about when we can do that," Penny said, noting that the town must be able to support its current infrastructure before it does anything new.
Town staff will to wait to see how 2010 finances pan out before moving forward on the large-scale plans to revamp Frisco's Main Street design.
Designer Mary Hart has already drawn up a tentative vision for the town's Main Street ̵

"With no significant action on highway improvements expected for six more years and no high-speed rail solution until 2020 at the earliest, local and state officials are looking into short-term (I-70) solutions..." according to a press release from organizer Our Future Summit.
