Frisco is a family-oriented town that offers affordable and
diverse lodging, shopping and dining options. Tucked against the soaring peaks
of the Ten Mile Range, with Lake Dillon
at its border, there is plenty to do outdoors.
In the winter, Frisco is known for great Nordic skiing, backcountry ski trails
and snowshoeing trails, and dinner sleigh rides.
In the summer, the Frisco
Peninsula draws bicycle riders,
Frisbee golfers, softball teams and hikers. The Frisco Bay Marina offers
motorboat, sailboat, canoe and kayak rentals for a scenic ride around Lake
Dillon. In addition, Frisco offers
a skateboard park and several summer concerts providing entertainment for the
entire family.
Before you set out for a day of hiking or boating, enjoy the views from one of
Frisco's fine communities.
The views from Frisco are in every direction. When jogging or skiing
out by the openspace still undeveloped on the Frisco Penninsula - and gazing
back at the town, the clouds appear as if they might be
fog in a Norwegian small town. But this is Colorado!

FRISCO - Dr. Peter Janes recently treated amputee patients amid the cracked walls of a Haitian hospital in makeshift operating rooms: "I'm still fixing femurs in my nightmares," he said. The orthopedic surgeon with Vail-Summit Orthopaedics in Frisco returned last week from a volunteer trip to help people suffering with crushed arms and legs. Patients, untreated for two-and-a-half weeks, waited in tents outside a Port-au-Prince hospital as they were wheeled or carried up three floors to operating rooms. Dr. Anthony Brocato, an anesthesiologist with the group, said there were no cases of head or chest trauma. "I'm sure they're out there, but most of those people probably died," he said. The group returned Feb. 1 from a week-long trip to the country that was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake on Jan. 12. Matthew Cowell, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, and Kate Hamzi and Patty Janes - both registered nurses - were among the gro

FRISCO - The Town of Frisco is close to sealing the deal on a host of new ways to play, including a terrain park, tubing hill, bike park, skating rink and 4,000-square-foot day lodge. The Frisco Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday night to approve the package of recreational amenities, to be located at the Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area, at the southeast end of town. The plan will go before the Frisco Town Council for final approval on Feb. 23. The Frisco Peninsula is an 807-acre finger of land stretching out into Dillon Reservoir. The town owns 220 of those acres, upon which the Frisco Nordic Center now sits. The area is also home to a disc golf course, playing fields, sledding hill and horse-drawn sleigh operation. The proposed tubing hill will have a lift system, such as a magic carpet, to transport riders up a hill. At the top of the hill, guests will have a choice of five chutes to whiz down, each about 1,000 feet long. Philip Sanderman, who lives near the P

FRISCO - Frisco's sales tax collection was still down in November, but not excessively so - showing town revenues are holding steady to its year-long trend. November 2009 was 6.6 percent down from the previous year, at $370,290. Year-to-date, Frisco is 14.5 percent down from 2008. Town staff has anticipated the dip and restructured the budget to reflect a 15 percent decrease in revenue for 2009. Town revenue specialist Chad Most said the budget change was officially made at the end of 2009. He also noted that the 2010 budget reflects "no growth." According to Most, the town is so far off $782,682 on sales tax collections from 2008. The monthly sales tax report showed the following numbers: Restaurants were down 11.06 percent in November, or $6,060. Lodging revenue was down 16.53 percent in November, or $3,400. Food (grocery) was up 10.89 percent in November, or $6,777 up. Most said he attributes this to Safeway filing its sales tax revenue 13 times in

DILLON - Security specialist Jeremy DuFour expected a quiet night while guarding the Frisco side of the Dillon Dam Road on Jan. 18. "Sundays are usually the deadest day," said DuFour, who works for Specialized Protective Service, a company contracted by Denver Water to guard the Dillon Dam Road. But DeFour's night turned out to be anything but quiet. AT about 12:20 a.m., a young man driving a stolen vehicle smashed through the barricade on the Dam Road from Frisco. He then crashed the car and tried to escape, but injured himself when he rolled down a steep embankment. DeFour, along with Dillon police officer Joe Staufer, revived and stabilized the man. DuFour and Staufer were honored by Dillon's chief of police Joe Wray at Tuesday's town council meeting for putting themselves in danger to save another in freezing temperatures. Both men were given the Dillon Police Department Life Saving Award. Summit County's undersheriff Derek Woodman sa
